Introduction

I have been working on deploying VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager (vRSLCM) 1.2 for a customer into their environment. One of the customer requirements was to be able to use SSO and RBAC with vRSLCM. The only way to this in vRSLCM is to VMware Identity Manager (VIDM).

Whilst this process is semi-automated, it hasn’t been as easy as it should have been. Following on from my initial article ( VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager – The tale of SSO and RBAC ) I came up against another issue that I thought was worth sharing.

Introduction

Recently I was asked to deliver a solution for VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager (vRSLCM) 1.2 for a customer to support their requirement for content management between VMware vRealize Automation 7.3.1 environments.

The reason we decided to use vRSLCM rather than VMware vRealize CodeStream Management Pack for IT DevOps (AKA Houdini) was we wanted to future proof the solution. If you didn’t know, from VMware vRealize Automation 7.4 onward, the Houdini functionality has been deprecated and is not supported.

The Session Builder for the VMworld Europe 2018 content catalog is now live! So if you’re going to be in Barcelona in November, you best head on over to the VMworld Scheduler site and get your sessions booked in before the spaces run out!

My VMworld Focus Areas

Personally, I will try to limit my focus to three main themes this year because there really isn’t enough time in the 3-4 days:

If I get to go to VMworld in Barcelona this year it will be my 3rd time in 3 years (I think that makes me Alumni). It will also be the 2nd time that I have self funded my trip to the VMware annual conference.

Who should be going to VMworld?

If you work with VMware technologies and want to understand more about VMware’s different products from the experts and consultants who deliver the best and most complex environments, then it is the ideal place to get that knowledge.

With the release of VMware vSphere 6.7, the feature parity between the legacy flex and HTML5 client is getting closer. In addition, with the release of VMware NSX-v 6.4.1 more VMware NSX-v features are also available in the HTML5 client (as seen below).

Note: At one of the keynotes at VMworld 2017 Europe, Ray O’farrell committed to the HTML5 client would have FULL feature parity at the next MAJOR release.

I’m extremely humbled to make the cut for this 2018 intake of the vExpert vSAN program. I’m in the company of some titans of the community!

Congrats to everyone who made it!

See the full announcement here .

That’s 3 out of 3 sub-designations to the vExpert program! Now I just need to somehow keep them all!

The following post is a part of my unofficial study guide for the VMware Specialist: vSAN 2017 Digital Badge. The full study guide can be found here .

Objective 2.2 - Describe vSAN Requirements

The requirements for VMware vSAN are split into multiple categories:

  • Hardware
  • Cluster
  • Software
  • Networking
  • Licensing

Hardware Requirements

One of the most important requirements in VMware vSAN is that all hardware components (i.e. cache devices, capacity devices, drivers, and firmware versions) in VMware vSAN must be certified for VMware vSAN AND listed in the vSAN section of the VMware Compatibility Guide .

Last week I had the pleasure to present to the guys at the London VMUG for the first time. Due to work and family commitments I only managed to get the presentation finished (literally) 1 minute before I took to the stage.

The session went well and evoked a lot of discussion which was great. But as there was so much content and discussion we managed to finish 15 minutes late… ops! No-one seemed to mind though!

I am, again, extremely humbled to be awarded the vExpert accolade as part of the class of 2018 (3rd year in a row).

It is an honour to be amongst such an awesome bunch of people constantly contributing to the VMware community.

Well done everyone who applied and made it!

If you applied and didn’t make it, keep working towards it #NeverGiveUp
