The second-half application for VMware vExpert 2021 close soon 9th July 2021. Now I appreciate that there has been a plethora of posts about the benefits of being a vExpert, so I thought I would share my story too :)
What Is The vExpert Program?
In my opinon, at it’s heart, the VMware vExpert Program is not just about advocacy and envanglism, it’s about community. It brings people together. It encourages those people with diverse backrounds, who live in different countries or continents (that would likely never meet otherwise) to share their own experiences with VMware Technology through the medium of their choice. It encourages people to give back with the hope that someone, somewhere can learn something, fix a problem or just know that they are not alone. Most importantly, you DO NOT have to be an VMware expert to be a VMware vExpert (but it does help!).

The VMware vExpert Cloud Management 2019 announcement has been released, and I am truly humbled to be recognised for community contributions in the cloud management space.
I can’t wait to see what cool stuff this new sub-designation brings to the #vCommunity!

#vRockstar
For me, this event marks the official #vCommunity start of “VMworld week” in Barcelona. This was my third year at the pre-VMworld party, vRockstar. As usual, the event was oversubscribed and sold out in record time weeks in advance. With another change in location this year, the event was held at the Obama English Pub/Grill ( https://obamabcn.com/ ). The venue was nice albeit a little smaller than the previous venues, the staff were nice and the food was awesome (once it had arrived). There were, however, times it did feel a little claustrophobic (mainly because of the amount of people trying to get to the bar…).

This year I was lucky enough to be given a #vExpert blogger pass to the VMworld 2018 Europe event in Barcelona. This will be my third year in a row!

The Session Builder for the VMworld Europe 2018 content catalog is now live! So if you’re going to be in Barcelona in November, you best head on over to the VMworld Scheduler site and get your sessions booked in before the spaces run out!
My VMworld Focus Areas
Personally, I will try to limit my focus to three main themes this year because there really isn’t enough time in the 3-4 days:

I am, again, extremely humbled to be awarded the vExpert accolade as part of the class of 2018 (3rd year in a row).
It is an honour to be amongst such an awesome bunch of people constantly contributing to the VMware community.
Well done everyone who applied and made it!
If you applied and didn’t make it, keep working towards it #NeverGiveUp

I have worked in “the industry” for the last 17+ years, so picking up new technologies and learning as much as I can (or at least as much I need to know to be dangerous) has become second nature to me.
If I was just starting out in IT today, I’m not sure where I would start. I know when I started back in the day with software packaging with WISE Package Studio, Networking was a dark art. Still today, some of its intricacies are a mystery to me and thats not because it is particularly difficult, its because there is only so much time in the day and so much you can know.

The 2nd half vExpert announcement just dropped into my inbox and I’m extremely humbled to be added to the growing list of ~150 people worldwide that have been awarded the vExpert subcategory accolade of VMware vExpertNSX.
The vExpert award is a acknowledgement of the contributions made by individuals to the VMware community. It is not too ealy to start working on building your content for the vExpert 2018 submission which will be later this year!
