In the beginning there was Code..

Like the previous 2 years, the first thing in my calendar, once I had registered and it was available on the Schedule Builder for VMworld Europe. was the VMware {Code} #Hackathon.

This year was a little different because the organising team (which didn’t seem to include Alan Renouf or William Lam), used HackerEarth to organise the event.

The Venue & Food

This year, the** #Hackathon **organisers took us to a new venue. I personally really liked the venue for the previous 2 years, Valkiria Hub Space , but I must say the new venue, Esferic , more than delivered!

After a good evening at the #vRockstar event, Partner Exchange (PEX) day was kicked off early for me with a session a couple of sessions.

Session 1 - #PAR4376BE - NSX Assessment Led Selling

The purpose of this session, with Atif Qadir and Dan Watson, was to get partners to think about how to position VMware NSX by understanding the IT and Business problems of a customer’s physical network. This is initially delivered by completing a VMware Virtual Network Assessment (VNA), but is not just about selling VMware Network Log Insight (vRNI). Understanding and interpreting the information provided by vRNI for the customer is key to identifying the use cases for VMware NSX. Customers are often surprised by the detail of the information generated. Still one of the biggest blockers to the adoption of VMware NSX remains the fact the customer doesn’t realise (or acknowledge) there may be a problem.

Hackathon VMware VMworld VMworld 2017

VMworld 2017 Barcelona is just under 2 months away. I’m lucky enough to be going for my 2nd year in a row. Thank you to Xtravirt for sponsoring my attendance this year (along with 3 other consultants).

Why am I going?

Everyone has a different reason for going (or wanting to go). Whether that is learning, networking, promoting yourself or promoting your company.

In my first VMworld last year in Barcelona, my eyes were opened to the possibilities that VMworld affords attendees. Within a given year, I don’t think there is another conference where you get all of the titans of VMware in one place.

Barcelona Hackathon VMworld vCommunity

To round of the off the first evening at VMworld Barcelona, I attended the very first VMworld Hackathon - Barcelona (#HackVMW) run by Alan Renouf ( @alanrenouf ).

Seven teams of disparate (or is that desparate?) individuals came together with one goal in mind: to complete (well nearly) 7 different projects.

I was lucky enough to be in Team 7 (AKA Team Anger Management), with Team Captain Mike Foley ( @mikefoley ), sub-team captain Duncan Epping ( @DuncanYB ) ,Myles Gray ( @mylesagray ),Cormac Hogan ( @CormacJHogan ), Paudie O’Reilly( @oriorp ), Dario Dörflinger.
