This year I decided not to sit in the General Session but watch it from the hang space to see what that was like. I think I prefer the General Session Room as it is more of an immersive experience. However, the ability to use a table/desk to take notes does help lots! I previously attempted the VMware Certified Implementation Expert 6 - Network Virtualization and, unfortunately, I wasn’t successful . It was the same old story with most VCAP exams, time simple ran out. As I am at VMworld this week it seemed rude not to take a second attempt for 1/2 price. The exam center had a few issues, both with overbooking (it seems the PEX keynote is the ideal time for everyone to take exams!

This is the first in a series of posts covering my time at VMworld 2017 in Barcelona. Flights I decided to fly in earlier this year, so after a 0700 start I got to London Heathrow and got on the 10:45 BA flight to Barcelona! The flight was relatively smooth but as I don’t fly as much anymore, I forgot those in cattle class don’t get fed for free anymore!

This post is a number of posts that make up a VCAP6-NV Study guide . In this post we will look at how to work with NSX Security Tags. What are NSX Security Tags? Security Tags are labels which can be associated with a Virtual Machine. Security Tags can then be used (amongst other things) to populate dynamically populate Security Groups with objects. Adding or removing Security Tags to a VM can be done dynamically in response to various criteria such as antivirus or vulnerability scans, and intrusion prevention systems.

With VMworld US started and VMworld EMEA just around the corner, I thought I would share my top tips for those people attending their first VMworld in Barcelona! Travel Getting to / from the Airport VMware put on air conditioned coaches to and from the airport. Check the VMworld pages for the times they run in between. Most people arriving Sunday or Monday and leaving Thursday should be covered. Metro Download the Barcelona Metro Map in PDF or JPG and save it on your phone.

As VMworld US kicks off in Las Vegas, it reminds that I didn’t make it to Las Vegas this year (which is disappointing), but it also reminds me that I need to start preparing for my trip to VMworld EMEA in Barcelona. Given the fact that the two VMworld’s are so close together this year, that means there is less than 14 days to go! This will be my second VMworld and I am looking forward to catching up with people I haven’t seen IRL for the last year.

The 2nd half vExpert announcement just dropped into my inbox and I’m extremely humbled to be added to the growing list of ~150 people worldwide that have been awarded the vExpert subcategory accolade of VMware vExpertNSX. The vExpert award is a acknowledgement of the contributions made by individuals to the VMware community. It is not too ealy to start working on building your content for the vExpert 2018 submission which will be later this year!
